Memorial: Alex Grzankowski

I arrived at Cambridge in the summer of 2015. It was in many ways an intimidating and foreign feeling place for someone with no previous experience with UK academia (to say nothing of Oxbridge). Hugh was one of the first people I met in the raised faculty building and he was immediately warm, kind, and generous with advice about London (where I was living). We went on to spend more time together including an especially fun meal at St Johns in London. We were slated to see a show together but covid led to cancelation and shortly after that Hugh sadly passed away. I got only a glimpse of Hugh’s generosity and kindness and only a taste of his philosophical excellence in person, but they were very good times indeed. I wish I could have spent more time with Hugh. He is greatly missed, even by those who knew him only for a short while.
